Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the first newsletter for Term 3! We love Term 3 and the exciting activities and events we have planned for our students. We commenced the term with Edu Dance and the students are thoroughly enjoying their lessons.

The school is preparing for our exciting Book Week activities, which will take place from Monday, 18 August to Friday, 22 August. Throughout the week, there will be a variety of fun and engaging events to celebrate the joy of reading, so keep an eye on our communications for more detailed information. To conclude the celebrations, we warmly invite you to attend our costume parade on Friday, 22 August at 11:45am in the undercover area, followed by a community picnic on the oval. We look forward to sharing this special week with our school community!

Congratulations to Mr B and the Interschool Cross Country Team

We are thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievement of our Interschool Cross Country team, who took out first place at the carnival on Tuesday 12 August. Under the dedicated guidance of Mr B, our students demonstrated incredible determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the event.

Their performance was a true reflection of the hard work and commitment shown during training, with many personal bests and top finishes across the board. It was wonderful to see our students supporting one another and representing Sorrento Primary School with pride.

A huge thank you to Mr B for his leadership and encouragement, and to all families who came along to cheer. Well done, team — you’ve made us all proud!

Out of Hours School Care – Coming Term 1, 2026

We’re excited to announce that Sorrento Primary School will be offering an Out of Hours School Care (OHSC) program starting in Term 1 – February 2026. We are currently in the process of securing a transportable facility to house the program.

In the coming weeks, we will be seeking Expressions of Interest from local Out of School Hours Care providers. This is a significant step forward in supporting our families with flexible care options, and we look forward to sharing more details soon.

Representatives of the school Admin staff, P&C representatives and School Board members will form the Advisory Group to select the Out of School Hours Care provider for our new OHSC program commencing in Term 1, February 2026.

P&C Meeting Update

We recently held a P&C meeting, and it was lovely to see parent representatives in attendance. Your involvement plays a vital role in shaping our school community, and we truly appreciate your time and contributions.

There was much discussion around several key areas, including:

  • The future of our canteen operations
  • Upcoming fundraising events
  • Reports and reflections on school life and student experiences
  • Additional support for the school through Busy Bees

These conversations help guide our planning and ensure that our school continues to thrive with strong community support.

The P&C are keen to support a Busy Bee in our Early Childhood Education (ECE) area so we’ll be gearing up for one on Sunday 21st September. This is a wonderful opportunity to come together and enhance our learning spaces. The ECE team will be sending out further correspondence soon, and we’d love to see as many parents as possible supporting this initiative. Many hands make light work!

Mental Health and Wellbeing Week – Week 8 (8–12 September)

Mental Health and Wellbeing Week is fast approaching, and we have a range of activities planned to promote emotional health and resilience across our school. This week is a cornerstone of our whole-school wellbeing approach, engaging both students and families in meaningful ways.

One of the highlights will be a special parent session:

  • Parent Talk: The Resilience Blueprint
  • Thursday 18 September 6pm School Library
  • Presented by Dr Ben Grafton – University of Western Australia

This session titled ‘The Resilience Blueprint: How to Raise Emotionally Strong Children’, will provide practical insights and strategies to help parents support their children’s emotional development and resilience.

These events are important because they strengthen our whole-school approach to wellbeing. By engaging both students and parents, we build a united community that prioritises emotional health, respectful relationships, and lifelong coping skills.

Students not returning in 2026

If your child is not returning to Sorrento Primary School for 2026, can you please let the school office know as soon as possible if you haven’t done so already.

Student Achievement

Congratulations to Dylan Woods who has been selected to represent Western Australia in the 2025 Cross Country Championship to be held in the Gold Coast, Queensland from 7 – 10 September. We wish Dylan all the best for this event.
