Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a wonderful few weeks it has been at Sorrento Primary School!

I’d like to begin by congratulating all our students on the outstanding success of last Thursday’s Faction Carnival. The energy, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship on display were truly inspiring. It was a brilliant day enjoyed by everyone, made even more special by the beautiful weather we were blessed with.

A huge thank you to all the parents who attended and cheered on our students. A special shout-out to the dads who generously gave their time to help set up in the morning and stayed back to assist with pack-up in the afternoon — your support is deeply appreciated. A massive thank you to our wonderful P&C team for their incredible support before and during the Faction Carnival. From face painting and faction merchandise to the coffe van, bake sale and sausage sizzle — your hard work, creativity, and community spirit made the day unforgettable. We’re so grateful for everything you do! To the 32 parents who took part in the final relay, what a spectacular way to end the day! Your spirit and participation brought smiles to everyone’s faces and created a memorable moment for our school community.

To our dedicated staff — thank you for your tireless work in organising and running the day so smoothly. Your efforts ensured every student had the opportunity to participate and shine. A special acknowledgement goes to our fantastic PE teacher, Mr B, whose passion and organisation made the carnival a true celebration of teamwork and fun.

One Big Voice

We also extend our congratulations to all the students who represented our school at One Big Voice at RAC Arena on Friday 29 August. The choir’s performance was outstanding, and it was a lovely evening enjoyed by all who attended. A huge thank you to our talented music teacher, Mrs Claire Mason, for preparing the choir so beautifully, and to Miss Jennifer Mackessack for her support on the night. Your dedication to the arts continues to enrich our school.

Edudance

Our Edudance concerts will be held next Tuesday 16 September and on Monday 22 September.  Please see Connect notices for concert Schedule.

Parent Code of Conduct

This week, our School Board reviewed the Parent Code of Conduct. These guidelines are an important part of ensuring our school remains a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all. We thank the Board for their thoughtful consideration and commitment to upholding the values that make Sorrento Primary such a positive place for learning and growth.

Health and Wellbeing Week

We were pleased to welcome Dr Ben Grafton to our school library on Thursday 11 September, where he presented to our parent community on Helping Kids Through Big Feelings: Emotion Coaching Skills for Parents. The session was well attended and incredibly beneficial, offering practical strategies and insights to support children’s emotional wellbeing. Thank you to all who joined us — your engagement in these opportunities helps strengthen our whole school community.

Classes 2026

Teachers are in the process of planning classes for 2026. If you have a request for our consideration that you believe is important based only on valid educational reasons, please contact me via email by the end of next week Friday 7 November at anne.alford@education.wa.edu.au

Please be mindful that information from past years should be revisited and requests should be voiced yearly if they remain a concern. Also, a reminder that requests for individual teachers or classes will not be considered unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Please feel free to contact the school if you have any other queries or concerns.

Finalists will be selected during auditions and will perform in front of the school community during the finals event.

Let’s celebrate the amazing talents of our students – we can’t wait to see what they bring to the stage!

Congratulations!

Lucas, one of our Year 5 students, participated in the short course swimming WA State Championships recently and won GOLD in the boys 200m freestyle and SILVER in the 200m individual medley. This is a huge achievement and I'm sure will hear more once he represents WA in the future. Well done Lucas!3327.jpg
