Parent Interviews – Student Progress and Achievement
Following discussions at a 2024 School Board meeting, we recognise the importance of providing early insights into student progress and achievement. To support this, we will be offering parent-teacher interviews in Week 9, on Wednesday 2 April 2025.
On this day, the school will close at 12pm, allowing teachers to conduct interviews between 12:40 pm and 6pm. This plan has been approved by the Department and the School Board.
More details, including interview scheduling, will be shared soon. Please save the date. If you have any questions or queries, please feel free to contact the school.
Swimming Carnival
During 2024, the school carried out a survey with the parent community regarding a Faction swimming carnival and the results of the survey were published in Newsletter number 5, 5 June 2024. See below.
Faction Swimming Carnival 2024
I would like to extend my gratitude to all parents who took the time to complete the faction swimming carnival survey. Your valuable input is essential in shaping our school events. We appreciate your feedback and suggestions provided in the survey, and the offers of help prior to and on the day of the carnival. Your support and engagement are important in making our school activities successful and meaningful for all involved.
We received 83 responses, with an overwhelming majority of 71 in favour of proceeding with the faction swimming carnival. I would like to acknowledge our amazing PE teacher who is willing to co-ordinate and organise this event. We will keep you updated in the near future of the plans for 2024.
We are thrilled to announce our first Faction Swimming Carnival for Year 4 to Year 6 students only.
This exciting event will take place on Monday, 10 March at Bold Park Aquatic Centre. Entering your child into an event will be parent nominated. Students will be required to meet specific stage levels for individual events.
Novelty races will also be offered to students. Mr Braimbridge will be providing further information regarding this event in week 2.
While we explored options for aquatic centres closer to the school, many were unavailable due to renovations in Term 1.
We look forward to a fantastic day of competition and fun!
WA State Government Commitment
The WA State Government has announced, as part of an election commitment to transform early childhood education in Western Australia, a $15 million investment for the expansion of before and after school care at WA primary schools if it is re-elected.
Sorrento Primary School has been identified as one of the 18 schools to receive an investment to establish an Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) on site in this election commitment.
Please be mindful that at this stage it is an election commitment, and we will receive further information following the election on 8 March 2025.
Crown Performance - WAGSMS
We are delighted to announce that our school will be performing at the Western Australian Government Schools Music Society (WAGSMS) event at Crown Theatre on Thursday, 26 June 2025. This is an exciting opportunity for our students to showcase their talents in music and the arts. More details regarding this event will be shared later in the term.
We look forward to sharing a fantastic year ahead with you at Sorrento Primary School!
