Welcome to this edition of our school newsletter. We appreciate your ongoing support and involvement in our school community.
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we are unable to participate in the Western Australian Government Music Society performance for 2025. We understand this may be disappointing, as it was previously mentioned in our first newsletter of the year. However, we remain committed to providing our students with performance opportunities and will make every effort to participate in 2026.
On a positive note, our P&C Annual General Meeting was held last week, and we were pleased to see such strong attendance. A new P&C committee was elected, and we look forward to working together to continue supporting our school.
2025 Members are:
- President: Jessie Parker
- Vice President: Ben Keevers
- Secretary: Nadia Aurisch
- Treasurer: Sarah McNulty
- Fundraising Co-ordinator: Rhea Twentyman
- Canteen Manager: Nadia Porteous
Executive Committee: Adam Conroy, Lana King, Tracey Hopcroft, Emily Rumballe
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our outgoing committee members, Mr Dean Hemmingsen and Mr Hai Pham, for their significant contributions during their time with the P&C. Their dedication and hard work have had a lasting impact on our school community.
Currently the P&C are fundraising on Saturday 8 March during the WA elections at the school library polling kiosk. They are seeking your support for an hour time slot to assist with the sausage sizzle or donation of eggs and/or baked goods on the day. These can be dropped off at the canteen the day prior. Please sign up using the links below if you are able to help.

Faction Swimming Carnival
A reminder to families about our inaugural Faction Swimming Carnival for Year 4 to Year 6 students, which will be held on Monday 10 March at Bold Park Aquatic Centre. We look forward to an exciting day of competition, teamwork, and school spirit. A huge thank you in advance to all the parents who have volunteered to assist on the day—your support is truly appreciated. We look forward to seeing you there.
ANZAC Service
We invite you to join us for our annual ANZAC Day Service as we come together to honour the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of the men and women who have served our country.
- Date: Wednesday 9 April 2025
- Time: 8.40am
- Location: Basketball Courts
This special service provides an opportunity for our students, staff, and families to reflect on the significance of ANZAC Day and pay tribute to those who have contributed to our nation's history. Students will participate through readings, music, and a wreath-laying ceremony.
We encourage all families to attend and stand alongside us in remembrance. If students would like to wear their relatives’ service medals, they are welcome to do so with pride.
Thank you for your support in making this a meaningful occasion for our school community.
NAPLAN
The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) testing for our Year 3 and Year 5 students will commence on Wednesday 12 March. This is an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning progress, and we encourage families to support their children by ensuring they are well-rested and prepared for the assessments.
Fathering Project
We are excited to announce that the Fathering Project Camp Out is being planned for the weekend of Friday 28 March. We encourage families to save the date, as this will be a fantastic opportunity for dads and father figures to connect with their children and other families in our school community. Please see information below from our school chaplian.

Parent Teacher Interviews
A reminder that parent teacher interviews will take place on Wednesday 2 April commencing at 12.40pm - 6pm. As mentioned in the previous newsletter, the school will close at 12.00pm. Please contact the school if you are unable to accommodate your child/children being picked up at 12.00pm.
Kiss and Drive
Kiss and Drive bays at Sorrento are on Elfreda Avenue. Kiss and Drive has been created for traffic flow and for the safety of all children. There is No Parking in Kiss and Drive bays during drop off and pick up times and definitely NO DOUBLE PARKING anytime.
It is important that all parents respect the guidelines to using the Kiss and Drive. If you have family members or friends picking up your children, please ensure they are aware of the drop off and pick up procedures around the school.
If you need to leave your vehicle to find your child, please move out of the Kiss and Drive area and park your vehicle elsewhere.
Please see below for current procedures:
KISS AND DRIVE TIMES
Set Down 8.15 – 8.50am
Pick Up 2.50 – 3.10pm
HOW TO USE KISS AND DRIVE
- Drivers to move to the front of Kiss and Drive bays when possible.
- Drivers to stop in a marked bay and remain in vehicles for no longer than 2 minutes.
- If your child is not waiting for you, please drive around the loop to avoid congestion.
- You may be asked by a staff member to move on if your child is not present. Please be courteous to these people.
- Children must alight and enter the vehicle from the left hand side only.
- If your child requires assistance to get in or out of the vehicle or requires assistance with their bag, then Kiss and Drive should not be used. Please park your vehicle elsewhere.
At no time is any child, whether accompanied by an adult or older sibling to cross Elfreda Avenue at drop off or pick up time. This is a dangerous practice and other children may copy that behaviour. The safety and well-being of our students are always our top priority.
Students Home at the End of School Day
We have noticed that some students are remaining on school grounds in the afternoons without parental supervision. As staff are not available to supervise students after school hours, this raises safety concerns and damage to property.
To ensure the well-being of all children, we kindly remind all families that students are expected to leave the school grounds promptly after dismissal unless they are attending an approved after-school program or activity.
If you are delayed in collecting your child, please inform the school office so appropriate arrangements can be made.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students safe. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you in the school yard.
Regards
Anne Alford
