Welcome to this edition of the newsletter. As we approach the end of the first school term for 2025, it is amazing to see how quickly time has flown by and how much we have accomplished together! It has been a busy term with many exciting events for our students.
We are excited to share some photographs with you of our inaugural Faction Swimming Carnival held at Bold Park Aquatic Centre. As mentioned in a Connect notice, the event was a huge success and a fantastic display of sportsmanship and community spirit. A special thank you to Mr Phil Braimbridge and our dedicated staff, and all the parents who assisted in making this event a memorable one.
We are also pleased to announce the completion of NAPLAN testing. Thanks go to Miss Monica Ross, the Year 3 and Year 5 teachers, and our diligent students for their hard work and commitment during this period.
Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Keen2STEAM competition at Churchlands. Your enthusiasm and creativity were truly inspiring. We would like to acknowledge Mrs Pippa Brolsma for her exceptional efforts in organising this event.
P&C
A big thank you to the P&C for organising the community picnic on the school oval on Friday, 14th March, and the Election Day sausage sizzle. Both events were a huge success and greatly enjoyed by all.
We are also grateful to the P&C for approving $32,800 to support the school with resources. For 2025 the P&C have contributed to the following:
Art Display Boards $5,000.00
PBS Rewards $2,000.00
Lexile licences $3,500.00
School Chaplaincy $4,000.00
Year 6 Graduation $1,100.00
Book Awards $1,000.00
Year 2 Desks and Chairs $16,200.00
Thank you to our wonderful P&C and to our parents for the continued support and involvement in our school community. We could not provide these additional programs and resources without you.
Our next events are the Sorrento P&C Pizza Day and Easter Raffle. See the Connect notice for details.
Fathering Project Camp Out
Another successful camp out event has been organised by our wonderful dads! It was great to see so many tents being pitched on the school oval on Friday afternoon with fathers and father figures coming together to positively engage with their children in a fun, safe environment, spending quality time, and creating lasting memories.
It is also important to note that research shows that effective father and father figure involvement in children’s life can significantly impact their development, reducing the incidence of issues like alcohol and drug abuse, and improving mental and general health.
The camp out also promotes social engagement and learning, contributing to the overall well-being of both fathers and children.
I would like to acknowledge Mrs Fiona Schopf, our school chaplain, for leading the event and also our wonderful dads: Aaron Primrose, Steven Deschamp, Clint Stanley, Ben Norman and Mark Wells for their work with organising the event and their work prior to, during and after the event. Many dads also stepped up in the afternoon, evening and morning to help so a huge thank you to all of those dads. Also, a huge thank you to every dad and to all of the children who attended to make this such a successful camp out.
I would also like to thank the Crowley family once again, proprietors of Beaumaris IGA, who generously support the school with many of our events. On this occasion, supplying food for the breakfast at a low cost to assist in keeping the price reasonable for the event. We sincerely appreciate their ongoing support. Thanks so much Scott and Kelly!
I would like to acknowledge Kate at i-Play Whitfords who generously donated vouchers for prizes.
Without the support and dedication of all these people, this event would not have been possible.
We are always looking for dads to help out and lead events, so if you would be willing to get involved, please contact the school or one of our dads mentioned above.
Parent Teacher Interviews
A reminder that parent teacher interviews will take place on Wednesday 2nd April. Please schedule a time with your class teacher as we have timeslots available from 12.40 – 6.00pm. This is an opportunity for your teacher to discuss where your child is at and how you can further support them at home. Please be mindful that these are only 10-minute sessions, however if you feel you need to discuss your child’s progress further, please schedule another appointment with the classroom teacher.
ANZAC Service
Our ANZAC service will be held in week 10 Wednesday 9th April at 8.40am on the basketball courts, led by our student councillors. We invite you to attend this important commemoration service.
IMPORTANT - Kaartdijin System
The school is transitioning to a new information system which means all attendance SMS messages will come from a new contact. We will provide further details soon with the school’s SMS ID and the date we go live.
School Development Day Term 2
A reminder that our School Development Day for term 2 is in week 5 – Friday 30th May.
As we wrap up the Term 1 newsletter, please be reminded that we break for the school holidays on Friday 11th April and return to school on Monday 28th April.
Enjoy the Easter break and a relaxing holiday with your children.
